Pink Bus Service to Launch in Patna for Women’s Safety and Comfort

Patna is preparing to launch a dedicated Pink Bus Service for women, a step taken by the Bihar government to improve the safety, convenience, and comfort of female passengers. This special bus service, run by Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC), is all about making public transport easier and safer for women in Patna and other big cities in the state.

First Phase to Cover Five Key Routes in Patna

In the first phase of this initiative, the Pink Bus Service will operate on five important routes in Patna. We've picked these routes carefully so they go through busy spots that women frequent daily, like schools, hospitals, markets, and office areas. The main connecting points include Gandhi Maidan to Danapur Station, Patna AIIMS, Patna Sahib Station, and Danapur Bus Stand. These are some of the busiest corridors in the city, and the new service will help ease the daily travel issues that many women face, especially during peak hours.

Buses to Arrive in May, Service to Begin Post Summer Break

The buses are currently being manufactured and inspected in Ropar, Punjab. A BSRTC team has already visited the site for inspection. According to officials, the buses are expected to arrive in Patna by May. Once the vehicles reach the city, the permit process will be completed. The formal operation of the Pink Bus Service is likely to begin after the summer holidays, most likely in June. This timing has been planned in a way that ensures smooth integration into the existing city transport system when schools and colleges reopen.

Modern and Eco-Friendly Buses with Safety Features

Each of these modern CNG buses has been built with a cost of around ₹23 lakh. They are fully air-conditioned, equipped with security features like CCTV cameras, and are designed to provide a safe and comfortable experience for female passengers. The Bihar government is also taking measures to ensure proper CNG supply for the new fleet. Since all these buses run entirely on CNG, authorities are working on identifying locations for new CNG filling stations. This will help in the smooth functioning of the service without any fuel-related challenges.

20 Pink Buses to Be Launched Across Four Cities

A total of 20 pink buses are being introduced in this initial phase. Out of these, 10 buses will be deployed in Patna while the remaining 10 will be sent to Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, and Purnia. These cities have also been identified as places where women often rely heavily on public transport but lack dedicated services. By extending the reach of the Pink Bus Service beyond the capital, the government is aiming to promote safe travel for women across the state, not just in urban centers.

Female Drivers and Conductors to Lead Operations

One of the most notable features of this initiative is that these buses will be operated entirely by women staff. This includes both the drivers and conductors. The BSRTC has already started the recruitment process for these positions. As per the announcement, 25 female drivers and 250 female conductors will be appointed in the first phase. The last date to submit the application for these posts is April 30, and currently, the application process is being conducted in offline mode. This initiative not only focuses on safe travel but also creates new employment opportunities for women, encouraging more female participation in the transport sector, which has traditionally been male-dominated.

Low Fare Structure with Monthly Pass Options

In terms of fare, the government has kept the pricing very affordable to ensure that women from all income groups can benefit from this service. The ticket prices will start from just ₹6 and go up to ₹50 depending on the distance traveled. To make the service even more user-friendly, the government is also introducing monthly passes exclusively for women passengers. This will save them from the hassle of buying tickets daily and also make regular commuting more economical, especially for students and working women.

Additional Safety Measures at Bus Stops and Along Routes

The introduction of the Pink Bus Service is not just about adding a few new vehicles to the city’s roads. It is a part of a larger vision to make public spaces and public transport more inclusive, especially for women. It shows the government’s intent to take real steps toward ensuring the safety of women while they travel for work, education, health care, or personal needs. In a city like Patna, where public transport often becomes overcrowded and sometimes unsafe for women, this dedicated bus service is expected to bring about a significant change.

Authorities are also planning to ensure that all the bus stops along the Pink Bus routes are well-lit and under surveillance. Coordination with local police will be done to increase patrolling near bus stops during early mornings and late evenings. This additional layer of safety will help female passengers feel more secure during their daily travel.

Major Tragedy Averted at Patna Airport: Laser Light Hits Indigo Flight During Landing

A massive air disaster was narrowly avoided at Patna Airport on Thursday evening when a laser light was intentionally directed at an Indigo aircraft approaching for landing. The shocking incident occurred as Indigo Flight 6E-2437, flying from Pune to Patna, was moments away from touching down on the runway.

Flight Loses Stability Due to Laser Light

As the aircraft descended towards the Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport around 6:40 PM, a sudden green laser beam struck the cockpit, distracting and disorienting the pilot. Sources confirmed that the pilot briefly lost visual focus, which caused a temporary imbalance in the aircraft’s alignment.

However, thanks to the pilot’s presence of mind and swift action, the situation was brought under control within seconds, and the flight landed safely without any physical harm to the 180 passengers onboard.

Pilot's Alertness Saved Hundreds of Lives

What could have ended in tragedy turned into a tale of heroism and professionalism. Even when things took an unexpected turn, the pilot kept his cool and landed the plane smoothly. Experts say that actually landing the plane is one of the most nerve-wracking parts of flying. Honestly, even a tiny distraction can turn things really bad if you're not careful.

Aviation authorities have praised the pilot’s quick response and calm demeanor, stating that had the pilot panicked, the consequences could have been catastrophic.

A Growing Danger for Aviation Safety

This incident has once again highlighted a disturbing trend — the misuse of laser lights near airports. Although they may appear harmless during celebrations or events, pointing a laser at an aircraft is incredibly dangerous. The intensity of a laser can cause temporary blindness, glare, or disorientation for pilots, especially during takeoff or landing.

Experts say such acts are not only life-threatening but also illegal. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and security agencies consider it a serious offense under Indian law.

Security Agencies Launch Immediate Investigation

Soon after the incident, airport security teams, along with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and local police, began a probe into the matter. Preliminary reports suggest that the laser was likely projected from a nearby residential or commercial building.

Authorities have begun examining CCTV footage from nearby areas, and locals are being questioned. If found guilty, the individuals responsible could face strict legal action, including imprisonment and a hefty fine.

Not the First Time at Patna Airport

Shockingly, this is not the first time that Patna Airport has witnessed a major safety scare. In recent months, several technical glitches and near-miss incidents have raised serious concerns about flight operations.

In November 2024, an Indigo flight carrying Bihar’s Governor had to abort takeoff due to a mechanical failure. In December 2024, another flight with nearly 180 passengers remained grounded for hours due to a technical snag. And now, with a human-caused threat like a laser attack, the need for better vigilance has become even more urgent.

Legal Consequences of Targeting Aircraft with Lasers

Under Indian aviation law, pointing a laser at an aircraft can lead to prosecution under Section 336 of the IPC (Act endangering human life) and the Aircraft Act, 1934. Offenders can be punished with up to five years in jail, along with a fine and a criminal record.

The DGCA has already instructed airport authorities across India to crack down on laser light usage in areas close to airport perimeters. Event organizers and residents are being warned not to use laser devices during flight operations, particularly at night.

Public Awareness is the Need of the Hour

This incident is a wake-up call for the public. Most people are unaware of how dangerous it is to use laser pointers near an airport. What seems like a harmless prank or celebration can potentially jeopardize hundreds of lives.

Aviation officials have urged local residents, especially those living near airport zones, to avoid using lasers and to report any suspicious activity immediately to the authorities.

Call for Stronger Regulations and Surveillance

Experts are now calling for stricter surveillance around airport zones, including laser detection systems, real-time tracking technologies, and increased night patrols. They also suggest that high-rise buildings near airports be monitored more closely, especially during flight peak hours.

Without proactive action, these incidents could turn fatal in the future. This is not just a law enforcement issue but a matter of national aviation safety.

Danapur Removes Intruders: The Municipal Council Acts to Restore Public Areas

The Danapur Municipal Council has started a massive anti-encroachment campaign in an effort to enhance urban management and make the city cleaner. Under the initiative called “Town Clean Operation”, illegal constructions such as roadside kiosks, huts, and unauthorized shops were removed from key areas. This operation, carried out under the direction of the District Magistrate (DM) and Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), focused on the heavily congested stretch from Saguna Mor to Gola Road Service Lane.

This project is a major attempt to restore public areas, facilitate traffic, and improve Danapur's overall attractiveness.

Reclaiming Public Spaces

Danapur's roads, often overwhelmed by encroachments, have been a source of frustration for commuters and residents alike.

These unauthorized constructions impede traffic flow, pose safety risks, and hinder urban planning efforts.

Through the utilization of bulldozers, the Municipal Council effectively eliminated these encroachments, thereby facilitating more organized and accessible public areas. Officials emphasized that the removal of these structures is essential for enhancing the quality of life for residents and ensuring improved mobility throughout the city.

Enforcing Fines and Discipline

During the operation, the Municipal Council imposed fines amounting to ₹31,500 on individuals found violating municipal regulations.

Furthermore, penalties were imposed on vehicles parked in restricted areas, tackling another ongoing challenge impacting the city’s traffic.

These stringent actions are integral to a comprehensive strategy aimed at promoting civic responsibility and underscoring the necessity of honoring public spaces.

Residents Applaud the Initiative

The anti-encroachment drive has been well-received by Danapur’s residents, many of whom have expressed relief at the restoration of order and cleanliness.

A local shopkeeper remarked, “For years, the illegal encroachments created chaos, making it difficult for both businesses and pedestrians. This measure is definitely required for the development of the city and is a welcome change.

In addition to reducing traffic, clearing off encroachments helps the town regain its pride.

Long-Term Urban Development Plans

To sustain the success of the “Town Clean Operation”, the Municipal Council has announced plans to regularly monitor encroachments and conduct periodic drives. Officials are also considering introducing designated parking zones and developing alternative spaces for street vendors to ensure a balanced approach to urban development.

The administration is calling on citizens to actively cooperate by following municipal guidelines and avoiding the misuse of public spaces.

Transforming Danapur into a Model City

This anti-encroachment drive is more than just a clean-up operation; it represents a transformative vision for Danapur’s future. By addressing long-standing issues like encroachments and unregulated traffic, the Municipal Council is setting the foundation for a safer, more organized, and aesthetically appealing city.

The success of this initiative depends on continued efforts by the administration and active participation from the public. Together, these actions will help Danapur evolve into a cleaner, greener, and more vibrant urban center, setting a benchmark for other towns in Bihar to follow.

With the “Town Clean Operation” underway, Danapur is taking a bold step toward becoming a modern and well-managed city, reflecting the aspirations of its residents and paving the way for sustainable growth.

Bihar Land Survey Extended to July 2026: Jamabandi to be Linked with Aadhaar from January 2025

In a significant step towards improving transparency and curbing benami land transactions, the Bihar Revenue and Land Reforms Department has announced an extension of the ongoing land survey deadline to July 2026. Additionally, starting January 2025, Jamabandi (land records) will be linked with Aadhaar, aiming to streamline ownership verification and prevent fraudulent practices.

Extended Deadline: Addressing Implementation Challenges

The ambitious land survey initiative, initially launched to modernize land records and reduce disputes, has faced repeated delays due to operational challenges, limited manpower, and rising public dissatisfaction. The Bihar government, recognizing the complexity of the task and the political implications of incomplete implementation, has opted to extend the survey deadline instead of rushing to meet unrealistic timelines.

Aadhaar Integration with Jamabandi: Ensuring Transparency

The integration of Jamabandi with Aadhaar marks a major digital reform in Bihar's land management system. This linkage is expected to:

Eliminate benami land ownership by identifying real owners.

Reduce fraudulent transactions and unauthorized land transfers.

Simplify verification processes for landowners and streamline administrative efficiency.

Public Pressure and Government Response

The Bihar government had promised timely completion of the land survey project before the assembly elections. However, citizens' discontent has grown as a result of regular delays and administrative inefficiencies. The government is under tremendous pressure to provide measurable outcomes while maintaining the accuracy of the survey.

Anti-Corruption Measures: Over 400 Officials Penalized

To tackle corruption and malpractice during the survey process, the government has launched a strict crackdown on erring officials. Out of 1,400 revenue officers investigated, over 458 officials have been arrested on charges of corruption. Furthermore, a dedicated four-member oversight team has been deployed at the headquarters to handle complaints efficiently.

Technology-Driven Land Survey System

To reduce dependency on in-person visits to government offices, the Bihar government has introduced an online platform for grievance redressal and survey tracking. Landowners can now check their land records, monitor survey updates, and register complaints digitally, saving time and reducing bureaucratic hurdles.

Strengthening Workforce: Over 80,000 Amins Appointed

Recognizing the need for an extensive workforce, the government has hired 80,035 Amins (land surveyors). These officials are tasked with completing the survey across 45,000 villages in the state. The survey process is already in its final stages in 20 districts, while work in the remaining 18 districts is actively underway.

The Road Ahead: Goals and Expectations

The Bihar government is aiming for a fully digitalized, transparent, and error-free land record system. With Jamabandi linked to Aadhaar, disputes over land ownership are expected to reduce significantly, and administrative efficiency will improve. This initiative is poised to set a benchmark for other states in land governance and management.

Conclusion

As Bihar moves towards the July 2026 deadline, the focus remains on ensuring accuracy, transparency, and accountability in the land survey process. The integration of Aadhaar with Jamabandi is a step in the right direction, promising a modern, efficient, and fraud-free land management system for the state.

BPSC Students Protest LIVE: Prashant Kishore Issues 48-Hour Ultimatum to Nitish Kumar, Protest Intensifies

The ongoing protests by Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) aspirants over alleged irregularities in the 70th Preliminary Exam have escalated, with Jan Suraj Party leader Prashant Kishore issuing a stern 48-hour ultimatum to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The demand is clear: immediate intervention and corrective action. The anxiety of the students doesn't appear to be abating until then.

Delegation Meets Chief Secretary Amritlal Meena

On Monday, a delegation representing the protesting BPSC aspirants met Bihar Chief Secretary Amritlal Meena to voice their grievances and demands. The candidates called for the cancellation and re-examination of the allegedly flawed 70th PT exam. Despite the Chief Secretary's assurance to the delegation that their concerns would be given careful consideration, the students are unconvinced and want to keep protesting until they see tangible results.

Prashant Kishore's Ultimatum to Nitish Kumar

Addressing the agitated students, Prashant Kishore delivered a sharp message to the Bihar government. He gave Chief Minister Nitish Kumar a 48-hour deadline to respond to the students' requests. "If we don't take decisive action, there will be more protests and legal action," Kishore said.

"The careers of thousands of aspirants hang in the balance. To rebuild trust in the system, the government must take responsible action," he stated.

Roadblocks and Protests Throughout the State

Students have staged road blockades in important districts like Darbhanga, Arwal, and Ara as a result of the movement that has spread beyond Patna. In Patna, major intersections have been blocked, disrupting normal life and highlighting the widespread anger among aspirants.

Political student bodies such as AISA and CPI(ML) have extended their support to the protesting candidates, amplifying the movement's reach.

Political Leaders Step In

The BPSC protest has drawn reactions from several prominent political leaders:

Tejashwi Yadav (RJD Leader): Announced his intention to meet Nitish Kumar personally and advocate for the aspirants.

MP Pappu Yadav: Met with Bihar's Governor, urging immediate resolution and transparency in the examination process.

Governor's Intervention: The Governor summoned BPSC Chairman Ravi Manu Bhai Parmar for an explanation on the allegations.

Violence During Sunday’s Protest

On Sunday, the protests took a violent turn when police deployed water cannons and resorted to lathi-charge to disperse students gathered at JP Golambhar. The crackdown occurred shortly after Prashant Kishore had left the protest site following a solidarity march.

The police have since filed an FIR against 21 named individuals, including Prashant Kishore, and over 600 unidentified protestors. The move has been heavily criticized by student groups and opposition leaders.

The Road Ahead: Critical 48 Hours

The next two days are crucial for both the protestors and the Bihar government. If the administration fails to address the demands of the students, the agitation is expected to grow in scale and intensity. Legal battles and larger mobilizations are also on the horizon.

The aspirants remain resolute in their demand for a fair, transparent, and accountable examination process. With the clock ticking on Prashant Kishore's ultimatum, Bihar watches closely for the government's next move.

The political stage in Bihar is once again set for high drama as speculations about the future of the NDA alliance and Nitish Kumar's leadership dominate conversations. With Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary actively participating in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Pragati Yatra, political analysts are reading between the lines to understand the message behind this calculated move.

SAMRAT CHOUDHARY'S PARTICIPATION: SYMBOLISM AND STRATEGY

Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary’s presence during Nitish Kumar's Pragati Yatra carries significant political weight. His involvement follows BJP officials' glaring absence during the Yatra's early stages, which raised concerns about potential divisions within the NDA. Choudhary's participation, however, is viewed as a calculated move to demonstrate unity and reinforce the BJP's faith in Nitish Kumar's leadership.

AMIT SHAH'S REMARKS: A POLITICAL MESSAGE

Union Home Minister Amit Shah stirred political waters with his recent statement that BJP and JD(U) would jointly decide on the leadership for the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections. Given that the NDA coordination committee had previously decided to run in the elections under Nitish Kumar's direction, this remark created concerns. The ambiguity led to murmurs within JD(U), but BJP swiftly managed the situation with Union Minister Giriraj Singh publicly praising Nitish Kumar’s leadership and even recommending him for the Bharat Ratna.

    PRAGATI YATRA: POLITICS MEETS DEVELOPMENT

The Pragati Yatra is not just a state governance initiative; it has evolved into a symbol of NDA's political alignment. Samrat Choudhary's overt involvement makes it obvious that she supports the cause. Prior to the important assembly elections, the BJP and JD(U) are making a concerted effort to present a picture of unity and respect for one another in order to prevent any rifts in their alliance narrative.

    'BRAND NITISH': JDU'S STRONGEST ASSET

For JD(U), Nitish Kumar remains their most powerful political asset. His leadership has come to represent Bihar's advancement over the years, whether it be in the form of social welfare programs, infrastructure development, or advancements in law and order. JD(U) leaders believe that 'Brand Nitish' still holds immense appeal among voters, especially in rural Bihar. His leadership has come to represent Bihar's advancement over the years, whether it be in the form of social welfare programs, infrastructure development, or advancements in law and order.

THE PATH TO 2025: A GORGEOUS HARMONY

Both BJP and JD(U) understand the importance of maintaining a delicate balance in their partnership. While occasional differences might surface, the larger strategy focuses on leveraging BJP’s organizational strength and Nitish Kumar’s widespread acceptance as a credible leader. Political observers believe that any disruption in this alliance could open doors for the opposition.

THE BIG QUESTION: WILL 'KHELA' HAPPEN AGAIN?

As Bihar gears up for the 2025 Assembly Elections, the political dynamics between BJP and JD(U) will continue to shape the narrative. Will the alliance remain intact, or will cracks resurface as the elections draw closer? For now, both parties are carefully playing their cards, aware that Bihar's political chessboard is far from predictable.

Stay tuned as the political drama in Bihar unfolds, with Brand Nitish at the center of it all.

  • Patna Crime: Three Years of Betrayal and Abuse Under the Guise of False Promises of Employment and Marriage
    My India Times    2024-12-18  86

Patna Crime: Three Years of Betrayal and Abuse Under the Guise of False Promises of Employment and Marriage

In a distressing case that has shocked the city of Patna, a 46-year-old man named Sikandar Singh has been arrested for exploiting a young woman for three years under the pretense of offering her a job and marriage. The incident, which took place near the Shastri Nagar police station, demonstrates the extent of dishonesty and the susceptibility of those looking for greater possibilities. The victim, originally from Sonpur, was misled with promises of education and employment but instead suffered repeated abuse, forced abortions, and psychological torment.

Exploiting Trust: How Promises of a Better Future Turned into a Nightmare

Sikandar Singh, a married man with two children, gained the victim’s trust by promising her an opportunity to complete her education and secure employment. Believing these promises, she left her hometown and moved to Patna. However, what was supposed to be a step towards a better future quickly spiraled into a nightmare. Instead of fulfilling his commitments, Sikandar kept her hostage in a rented house. He betrayed her trust over the course of three years by repeatedly abusing her sexually and making fictitious promises of marriage. Each time she sought clarity on the marriage promise, Sikandar postponed the discussion, keeping her trapped in a cycle of hope and betrayal.

Forced Abortions and Emotional Trauma: The Price of Deceit and Manipulation

During this period, Sikandar forced the victim to undergo three abortions. These distressing experiences had a profound impact on her physical and emotional well-being. She felt disempowered and alone, unable to extricate herself from the circumstances or seek assistance. The recurring cycles of maltreatment, unfulfilled assurances, and involuntary medical interventions inflicted enduring wounds, rendering her increasingly susceptible to Sikandar’s dominance. The psychological manipulation compounded her helplessness, as Sikandar skillfully prevented her from reaching out to anyone who could assist her.

Held Captive in a Rented House: The Struggle to Break Free from Control

The victim was kept in a rented house where Sikandar exercised strict control over her movements. The purpose of this physical and psychological imprisonment was to keep her from getting away or getting in touch with the outside world. She was under continual surveillance and threatened with violence if she tried to escape. This form of captivity made it incredibly difficult for her to seek help or even contemplate a way out. Each attempt to resist or question her situation was met with further manipulation or physical intimidation, leaving her trapped in a cycle of despair.

Assaulted for Seeking Justice: A Brave Escape from the Clutches of Abuse

After enduring years of abuse, the victim finally resolved to seek justice. However, when Sikandar learned of her plan to report him to the police, he assaulted her in a desperate attempt to silence her. Despite this brutal attack, she managed to escape and reach the Shastri Nagar police station to lodge her complaint. This act of courage marked the turning point in her ordeal, as the police promptly took action to arrest Sikandar Singh.

Swift Police Action and the Path to Justice for the Victim

Upon receiving the complaint, the Shastri Nagar police swiftly intervened, arresting Sikandar Singh and placing him in judicial custody. The authorities have initiated further legal proceedings to ensure he faces the full consequences of his actions. The police's quick response has offered the victim a glimmer of hope and justice after years of suffering. This case underscores the importance of prompt law enforcement intervention in matters of exploitation and abuse.

The Need for Greater Awareness and Protection for Vulnerable Women

This harrowing incident serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for greater awareness and protective measures for vulnerable women. Many individuals seeking opportunities fall prey to false promises, making it essential to educate communities about recognizing and reporting exploitation. Society must remain vigilant and proactive in supporting victims and ensuring that justice is delivered swiftly. Stricter enforcement of laws and more comprehensive support systems for survivors of abuse are crucial to preventing such cases in the future.

In conclusion, the exploitation faced by this young woman is a call to action for society, law enforcement, and policymakers. Only through awareness, education, and stringent legal measures can we hope to eradicate such heinous crimes and protect the vulnerable from similar fates.

  • CM Nitish Kumar to Launch Pragati Yatra on December 23
    My India Times   2024-12-18  139

CM Nitish Kumar to Launch Pragati Yatra on December 23

A Vision for Development and Women Empowerment

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to embark on his 15th state-wide tour, named Pragati Yatra, starting December 23. This initiative seeks to evaluate development projects, engage with diverse segments of society, and collect insights to inform future governance. A primary emphasis of this initiative is on empowering women and strengthening their contribution to the advancement of Bihar.

Transition from Mahila Samvad to Pragati Yatra

Initially planned as the Mahila Samvad Programme — a dedicated initiative to engage with women — the scope of the event has been expanded and renamed the Pragati Yatra. This broader approach reflects the government's intent to connect with not only women but also JEEViKA Didis (members of self-help groups) and other community stakeholders. The Bihar cabinet previously sanctioned a budget of ₹225 crore for the Mahila Samvad Programme, which has now been absorbed into this comprehensive outreach effort.

Ashok Chowdhary, a JD(U) Minister, highlighted that Pragati Yatra will ensure inclusive governance by soliciting feedback from diverse groups and aligning state policies with public needs.

    Itinerary of the Yatra

The Pragati Yatra will cover multiple districts over several days. The journey begins in West Champaran on December 23, followed by East Champaran on December 24. After a break for Christmas, the yatra resumes on December 26 in Seohar and Sitamarhi, continues to Muzaffarpur on December 27, and concludes this phase in Vaishali on December 28. The minister in charge of the district and other authorities will attend each visit, which will involve a thorough evaluation of development projects.

    Empowering Women and Inclusive Development

Over his nearly 20-year tenure, Nitish Kumar has consistently prioritized women's empowerment and social development. The Pragati Yatra highlights his commitment to initiatives such as:

    • 50% reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions.
    • 35% reservation for women in government jobs.
    • Supporting 1.4 crore JEEViKA Didis through self-help groups.
    • Alcohol prohibition, a policy influenced by women's advocacy.

JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar emphasized that this yatra is about more than just reviewing progress. By making sure that policies take into account the needs of all citizens, especially women, it seeks to establish a roadmap for Bihar's future.

    Political Significance Ahead of Elections

With the 2025 state elections approaching, the Pragati Yatra comes at a strategically important time. Women make up nearly 48% of Bihar’s electorate, making them a crucial voter base. Through this yatra, Nitish Kumar aims to reinforce his connection with women voters and demonstrate his government’s achievements in their empowerment.

Meanwhile, the opposition is also making efforts to court women voters. Promises such as the ‘Maai Behan Maan Yojana’, which proposes financial support for economically weaker women and increased pensions for widows, have been announced as part of their election agenda.

    Nitish Kumar’s Legacy of Yatras

This isn’t the first time Nitish Kumar has undertaken such tours. His previous yatras, each with a unique focus, include:

    • Nyaya Yatra – Focused on justice and legal reforms.
    • Vikas Yatra – Centered on developmental progress.
    • Sewa Yatra – Emphasizing service-oriented governance.
    • Jal Jeevan Haryali Yatra – Promoting water conservation and environmental sustainability.
    • Samaj Sudhar Yatra – Focused on social reforms and improving societal norms.

Each yatra has played a role in shaping Bihar’s policies and addressing the needs of the population.

Looking Ahead: A Roadmap for Bihar’s Future

The Pragati Yatra signifies Nitish Kumar’s unwavering commitment to grassroots governance and policy refinement. By directly engaging with the people, especially women, this initiative aims to identify areas for improvement, celebrate successes, and prepare for future reforms.

As the yatra progresses, it is expected to influence Bihar’s developmental discourse and set the stage for the upcoming elections. Stay tuned for the unfolding journey of the Pragati Yatra and its impact on the state’s future.

  • The Patna High Court upholds the Bihar Sanskrit Education Board Amendment Act's constitutional validity.
    My India Times    2024-12-18  68

The Patna High Court upholds the Bihar Sanskrit Education Board Amendment Act's constitutional validity.

The Patna High Court recently dismissed a petition contesting the new law and upheld the Bihar Sanskrit Education Board (Amendment) Act, 2024's constitutionality. The petitioners, consisting of the Chairman and members of the existing Sanskrit Education Board established under the Bihar Sanskrit Education Board Act, 1981, claimed the amendment was unjust and politically motivated.

    Claims Made by the Petitioners

The petitioners raised several arguments to challenge the amendment:

Allegations of Arbitrariness: They argued that dissolving the existing board and appointing an administrator were arbitrary decisions lacking fairness.

Violation of Rights: They contended that the amendment infringed upon their right to continue serving as board members.

Unconstitutionality: The petitioners questioned the authority of the Bihar State Legislature to enact the amendment.

    Court’s Reasoning Behind the Dismissal

No Vested Right to Board Membership

The Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice K Vinod Chandran and Justice Partha Sarthy, determined that the petitioners had no vested right to their positions. According to the court, the purpose of the statute was not to guarantee anyone's permanent membership.

    Modernization and Enhancement of Governance

The court underlined that the amendment sought to update and modernize the board's composition and operations. It was believed that the adjustments were required to conform to the policies and demands of modern education.

    Legislative Authority Confirmed

The court reaffirmed that the Bihar State Legislature had the authority to pass the amendment. There was no good reason to doubt the legislature's authority.

    Key Focus of Section 5(3)

A crucial provision in the amendment, Section 5(3), grants the state government the power to dissolve the board in the interest of the public. The court maintained this clause, arguing that by guaranteeing the board's effective operation, it served the general public interest.

Conformity to the National Policy for Education

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which advocates for changes and quality enhancements in educational systems, is supported by the amendment, the court noted.

    Temporary Nature of Administrator Appointment

The court clarified that the appointment of an administrator was a temporary measure to manage the board's affairs during the transition. This measure was aimed at maintaining operational stability until an expert committee could make recommendations for reforming Sanskrit education.

    Rejection of Arbitrariness Claims

The court concluded that the petitioners did not provide sufficient evidence to prove arbitrariness. Their claims were deemed unsubstantiated, and the petition was dismissed accordingly.

    Conclusion

The Patna High Court ruled that the Bihar Sanskrit Education Board (Amendment) Act, 2024 is:

    • Constitutionally Sound: No breach of constitutional provisions was found.
    • Fair and Justified: The changes were neither arbitrary nor politically motivated.
    • Essential for Reform: The amendment promotes necessary restructuring and modernization of Sanskrit education in Bihar.

  • BPSC Exam Protests Escalate: Arrests, FIRs, and Clarifications
    My India Times    2024-12-09  61

BPSC Exam Protests Escalate: Arrests, FIRs, and Clarifications

The controversy surrounding the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) 70th Combined Competitive Examination took a serious turn as police arrested Dilip Kumar, the leader of the student protests, and lodged an FIR against Khan Global Studies, a popular coaching center in Patna. Concerns regarding the testing procedure, technical difficulties, and ambiguity around score normalization were the main causes of the continuous demonstrations.

    The Arrest of Dilip Kumar

On Saturday, police detained Dilip Kumar for organizing large-scale student protests in Patna. He was charged with instigating public disorder, road barricade, and obstruction of government duty. Officials noted that this was not Kumar's first arrest for leading such agitations. His incarceration was a component of a larger campaign to curb disruptive behavior in public areas.

A senior police official commented, “Dilip Kumar has been sent to jail. Assembling in large numbers in a busy area and provoking students is a serious matter. We are examining video footage to identify others involved.”

    FIR Against Khan Global Studies

During the protests, Khan Global Studies posted a video on its social media platforms claiming that its founder, Khan Sir, had been arrested. This fueled outrage and further confusion among students and the general public. However, police quickly clarified that Khan Sir was not arrested; instead, he had voluntarily visited the police station.

An FIR has been lodged against the coaching center for purportedly disseminating false information and heightening tensions. Authorities have underscored the necessity of mitigating misinformation, particularly during sensitive events such as protests related to competitive examinations.

The police stated, “The posts about Khan Sir’s arrest are false. He was not arrested but visited the station of his own accord.”

    Khan Sir’s Support for Students

Khan Sir, a well-known educator and YouTuber, stood in solidarity with the protesting students. He backed their demands for the cancellation of the normalization process and an extension of the exam date due to technical issues faced by many aspirants during the application process. Additionally, he demanded that the head of the BPSC issue a written statement outlining the commission's position on normalization and assuring students of a fair examination procedure.

    Police Actions and Legal Consequences

Two separate FIRs have been lodged in connection with the protests:

Against Dilip Kumar and 100 unidentified protesters for charges related to road blockade, disruption of duties, and inciting unrest.

Against Khan Global Studies’ social media handle for disseminating misleading claims about Khan Sir's arrest.

    BPSC’s Response and Clarification

The BPSC preliminary exam is set for December 13, 2024, and admit cards have already been released. In response to the agitation, the commission issued an official statement confirming that there would be no normalization of scores in the upcoming examination. The commission labeled the protest as “misguided and unwarranted” and urged aspirants to ignore misinformation.

The commission’s communique read: “There is no normalization process under consideration. The exam will proceed as per the advertisement and guidelines issued.”

    Impact of Protests on Aspirants

The recent events highlight underlying issues such as:

    • Transparency in examination procedures.
    • Technical glitches affecting application submissions.
    • The need for clear and timely communication from authorities to prevent misinformation and confusion.

These protests serve as a reminder of the importance of addressing student grievances promptly and effectively.

    Guidance for Aspirants

To navigate this challenging period, students should:

    1. Stay Informed: Follow official BPSC announcements for accurate information.
    2. Avoid Misinformation: Cross-check news and social media updates from credible sources.
    3. Focus on Preparation: With the exam date confirmed, prioritize exam readiness and avoid distractions.

    Conclusion

The BPSC exam protests reflect deeper systemic issues within the competitive examination process. While authorities are cracking down on misinformation and public unrest, aspirants are urged to remain patient, informed, and focused on their preparation. Ensuring fairness and transparency is a shared responsibility between the authorities and the students.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing situation.
