PM Modi Launches 7th Khelo India Youth Games in Bihar with a Powerful Message

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the seventh edition of the Khelo India Youth Games on May 4, 2025, through videoconferencing. This is the first time that Bihar is hosting this prestigious sports event, which will continue till May 15. The games are being conducted across five districts of the state—Patna, Rajgir (Nalanda), Gaya, Bhagalpur, and Begusarai.

Massive Participation from Across India

The event has drawn participation from more than 8,500 athletes and around 1,500 technical officials from across the country. These participants will compete in 28 different sports disciplines, making it one of the largest editions of the Khelo India Youth Games so far. Including traditional Indian sports like Gatka, Kalaripayattu, Mallakhamb, Yogasana, and Kho-Kho really brings a special cultural vibe to the competition. It’s a great opportunity for local and rural athletes to get a shot at the national spotlight and display their skills.

PM Modi Applauds Athletes and Coaches

During his speech, Prime Minister Modi took a moment to thank everyone involved — players, coaches, organizers — for their hard work. He really praised the athletes for their commitment and discipline, and he pointed out that the youth are the backbone of a strong, lively India. He also talked about how the country's growing sports scene isn’t just good for national pride but also helps boost India's image around the world. For him, sports are becoming a really powerful way to support social progress and national growth.

Promoting Unity Through Culture and Sports

The Prime Minister encouraged participants to explore Bihar’s cultural richness during their stay, mentioning traditional dishes like Litti-Chokha and the local specialty, Makhana. He stressed that such events promote unity in diversity, aligning with the national vision of "Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat."

Sports as a Career Opportunity

He also pointed out that sports aren’t just about playing. They open doors to all kinds of careers like managing teams, working in sports media, physiotherapy, and analytics. The idea is to create a system where young people can find real, lasting opportunities in the sports world and build solid futures.

Bihar’s Infrastructure Push for Sports

Bihar has taken significant steps in preparing for the games. The government has set up a Khelo India State Centre of Excellence, and plans are in motion to develop Bihar Sports University and a Sports City along the Patna-Gaya highway. These efforts aim to create long-term infrastructure and professional opportunities for athletes in the state.

Gaj Singh: The Official Mascot

The official mascot of this year’s games is ‘Gaj Singh’, which represents strength, intelligence, and Indian heritage. The event also includes eSports as a demonstration category, reflecting the changing landscape of sports and the interests of modern youth.

High-Profile Inauguration Ceremony

The opening ceremony was attended by senior political leaders including Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Sinha. Their presence signified the importance of this event and the collective commitment to promoting sports in the country.

Massive Scam Exposed in Bihar Police: Two Jobs with One Identity

A shocking scam has surfaced in Bihar Police that has left everyone stunned. Two individuals managed to serve in the police department for over four decades by using the same identity — same name, address, date of birth, and even PAN card. This big slip-up in the system has got people questioning the recruitment processes that were in place back in the day. The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) has jumped on this and opened up a full investigation into what's going on.

One Name, Two Jobs, Forty-One Years of Fraud

The matter came to light when a man named Vikrama Singh applied for his pension after retiring as a sub-inspector from Sheohar district. During document verification, officials realized that another Vikrama Singh, with exactly the same personal details, was already drawing pension from Rohtas treasury. On deeper investigation, it was revealed that two individuals had been using the same identity but serving in different districts all these years without being caught.

How the Fraud Was Carried Out

According to the investigation, the first Vikrama Singh, a resident of Chauridihara village in Mohania, got selected in 1982 for both Katihar GRP and Rohtas district police. He chose to join the Katihar GRP and eventually retired from Gaya district in 2023. Meanwhile, another Vikrama Singh, having the same father’s name, address, birth date, PAN card details, height, and chest measurements, joined Rohtas district police and later retired from Sheohar. The only minor differences noticed were in their Aadhaar numbers, bank account numbers, and the first place of posting.

No Digital Systems, No Cross-Checking

Back in the 1980s, everything operated manually. There was no digital verification, biometric data, or centralized record-keeping. This loophole allowed the fraud to continue for decades without raising any suspicion. Since the two individuals worked in different districts, their records were never cross-checked. The fraud remained hidden until stricter pension processing norms, aided by digital records, brought it to light.

Immediate Action by Economic Offences Unit

As soon as the fraud was uncovered, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) swung into action. So, they filed a police report and kicked off a thorough investigation. Now, officials are trying to figure out if there are any other similar cases floating around in the system. They're also looking into whether any employees or officials, whether on purpose or by accident, played a role in making this scam happen. Authorities have promised that the guilty will be punished severely.

Massive Public and Political Outcry

This case has caused huge public outrage. Citizens are questioning how two people could manipulate the system for so long without being caught. Many fear that this may not be a one-off incident and are demanding a statewide audit of government employees’ records. Political parties have also raised their voices, demanding transparency in the investigation and strict punishment for all those involved.

Urgent Need for Reforms in Recruitment and Record Management

Experts say that this scam has exposed the urgent need for serious reforms in government recruitment processes. Digital verification systems must be made mandatory for all government employees. Aadhaar, PAN, and biometric details should be verified at the time of hiring itself. Employee databases across districts and departments should be interconnected to avoid such frauds. Regular audits must be conducted every few years to ensure no fake or duplicate employees exist in the system.

Lessons for the Future

The Bihar Police scam should serve as a wake-up call for the entire country. If a scam of this scale can remain hidden for 41 years, it shows how deeply flawed the earlier processes were. There is an urgent need to shift fully to technology-driven systems. Only strong digital processes, biometric verification, and continuous monitoring can prevent such frauds and restore people's trust in government institutions.

Authorities must not treat this as an isolated case. A detailed audit of all government departments across Bihar, and possibly the entire country, should be conducted. Those responsible must face the strictest legal action. Only then can the credibility of public services be safeguarded.

Tragic Boat Capsize in Katihar, Bihar: A Heroic Rescue Amidst the Ganga's Fury

A devastating boat capsize took place in Katihar, Bihar, when a small dinghy, en route from Golaghat in South Karimallupur to Sakri Gali in Sahibganj, Jharkhand, overturned in the Ganga River. This unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday morning around 8:30 AM, resulting in tragic loss of life and a dramatic rescue operation. The vessel was carrying 18 individuals, including the boatman, who faced a series of unfortunate events shortly after departure.

The Incident: A Fatal Journey on the Ganga

The boat had barely left Golaghat when it encountered strong gusts of wind from the west. The sudden increase in wind speed caused water to inundate the vessel, and the boatman struggled to maintain control. Despite his best efforts to steady the boat, the situation deteriorated rapidly. Within moments, the boat capsized, casting everyone onboard into the river.

The passengers, en route to a religious ceremony, had little time to react as the boat sank swiftly. The force of the river’s waves, combined with the fierce wind, made it nearly impossible for passengers to grasp hold of the boat.

Gabbar Singh’s Heroic Rescue: A Glimmer of Hope Amidst Disaster

Amidst this turmoil, a young man emerged as a symbol of hope—21-year-old Gabbar Singh, a local boatman from Golaghat. Despite the perilous conditions, Gabbar Singh leaped into the water and, without hesitation, managed to rescue 11 individuals. Tragically, three passengers had already perished, but Gabbar Singh’s quick actions saved eight others.

Accompanied by his older brother, Suresh, Gabbar Singh played a pivotal role in ensuring the survival of these passengers. Suresh detailed the significant challenges they faced in the turbulent waters, indicating that the strong winds rendered navigation extremely difficult. Nevertheless, the brothers persevered and rescued multiple individuals from the water.

Survivor Accounts: Chaos and Uncertainty

Survivors, including Kishan Mandal from Pranpur, who was on board with his family, recounted the terrifying moments during the capsizing. Kishan noted that the boat was carrying 18 passengers, all headed to conduct the last rites of his elder sister. As they traversed the Ganga, they confronted several large waves. While the boat managed to withstand the first two waves, the third ultimately proved overwhelming, leading to the capsizing. The survivors were left in bewilderment, uncertain of how they escaped.

In the wake of the incident, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kumar Siddharth acknowledged the negligence associated with the operation of unauthorized boats. He urged local representatives and residents to report any unauthorized boat operations, stressing that action would be taken against violators. The SDM's comments reflect a wider issue of unregulated river transport, which often leads to such tragic accidents.

Additionally, Gabbar Singh and his brother Suresh’s bravery in rescuing the victims has been recognized by the district administration, which announced that they would be rewarded for their life-saving efforts.

Call for Safety Reforms in River Transport

The incident underscores the pressing need for stricter regulations and safety measures in river transport. Unregulated boat services are often a hidden danger in many regions, with little oversight or safety protocols in place. It is crucial for authorities to ensure that all boats are properly inspected, and safety equipment, such as life jackets, is made mandatory for all passengers.

In light of this tragedy, Rajesh Kumar, the State Youth Secretary of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), called for immediate reforms to prevent such incidents in the future. He emphasized the need for stronger enforcement of safety standards to protect river travelers.

Chief Minister’s Response: Condolences and Assistance for Victims

The news of the boat disaster in Golaghat shocked not just Katihar but the entire state of Bihar. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed deep sorrow over the incident, particularly the loss of three young lives, including children. He took to Twitter to extend his condolences, directing the district administration to continue the search for missing individuals.

The Chief Minister also announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased, expressing his heartfelt sympathy to the grieving families. His quick response to the tragedy, along with the compensation, aims to provide some support to those affected by the loss.

Bear Attack Sparks Panic in Betia Village as Farmers Fear for Safety Amid Growing Wildlife Conflict

Residents of Betahani village in the Gobarhiya police station region of Betia district are experiencing ongoing trepidation following the arrival of a female bear and her cubs, who have taken up residence in nearby sugarcane fields. This unprecedented situation has incited considerable alarm among local farmers, especially those cultivating sugarcane, who are now hesitant to manage their crops.

The latest incident transpired on Saturday morning when Parmeshwar Mahto, a 57-year-old farmer, was assaulted by the bear while working in his fields. Mahto, accompanied by his son-in-law for the sugarcane harvest, became a target of the bear that had been living in the vicinity with her young. Fortunately, Mahto survived the encounter, albeit with serious injuries.

A Narrow Escape for Parmeshwar Mahto

Mahto detailed the harrowing moments preceding the attack, noting that he and his son-in-law were in the sugarcane fields around 7:00 AM when the bear unexpectedly charged at them. Likely perceiving a threat or prompted to protect her cubs, the bear struck Mahto, inflicting considerable harm. “The bear lunged at me without any forewarning. I cried out for assistance, prompting nearby workers to rush with sticks to fend her off. It was this intervention that allowed me to escape with my life,” Mahto recounted.

The bear's assault resulted in injuries to Mahto's left hand and the right side of his waist. Following initial care at the Primary Health Center (PHC) in Harna Tand, he was referred to the sub-divisional hospital for further treatment. Dr. Rajendra Kazi, who provided Mahto's initial care at the PHC, affirmed that while his injuries were serious, they were not life-threatening. Mahto is currently recovering and is no longer in danger.

Local Farmers in Distress

The bear's attack has left Mahto injured and instilled a deep sense of fear among the local farming community. The female bear and her cubs have occupied the sugarcane fields for several days now, rendering it hazardous for farmers to conduct their work. With the harvest season underway, many farmers are reluctant to enter their fields, wary of another potential bear encounter.

The presence of the bear has thoroughly disrupted our daily routines. We can no longer venture into the fields; the danger is simply too great,” stated a local farmer who preferred to remain anonymous. The anxiety among farmers has escalated significantly, with many expressing concerns about the safety of their crops and personal well-being.

In light of the situation, the villagers have appealed to the forest department for immediate intervention. They have requested assistance in relocating the bear and her cubs, or at the very least, ensuring better protection for the farmers working in the fields.

A Long-Standing Problem in the Region

This recent attack is not an isolated incident. In fact, human-wildlife conflicts in this region have been a growing problem for years. Betia, situated near the Valmiki Tiger Reserve, has seen an increasing number of such attacks in recent times. Wild animals, including tigers and bears, often wander into nearby villages and agricultural areas in search of food, leading to violent confrontations.

The local community has faced several attacks in the past, especially from bears. Last September, a woman from the nearby Narayanapur area was severely injured by a bear while gathering grass in the fields. The woman survived, but the attack left her with deep wounds. This attack was one of several similar incidents, which have caused widespread fear and unease in the community.

A Growing Threat Near the Valmiki Tiger Reserve

The Valmiki Tiger Reserve, located in Bihar, is home to a variety of wildlife, including tigers, leopards, bears, and elephants. While the reserve plays a crucial role in the conservation of these species, its proximity to human settlements has led to frequent conflicts between wildlife and villagers. As animals such as bears and tigers move out of the reserve, they often enter agricultural fields, causing damage to crops and posing a threat to human life.

Villagers living near the reserve have long struggled with the presence of these wild animals, but in recent months, the situation has worsened. With an increasing number of attacks on farmers and other villagers, there is a growing demand for the government and forest department to step up efforts to manage the situation effectively.

Urgent Calls for Action

In response to the recent attack, villagers have called for urgent action to ensure their safety. They have urged the forest department to implement measures such as regular patrols in the area, the relocation of dangerous animals, and the installation of barriers around agricultural fields.

Additionally, community leaders have called for increased awareness programs to help farmers understand how to protect themselves from wildlife encounters. There are also suggestions to create wildlife corridors that would reduce the chances of wild animals entering populated areas.

Prime Minister Jan Aushadhi Kendras Under Review: Concerns Over Medicine Quality Elevated

Bihar News: The Prime Minister Jan Aushadhi Kendras, a government initiative designed to provide accessible generic medications to the public, is currently facing significant scrutiny due to alarming reports regarding the distribution of substandard pharmaceuticals. A confidential inspection report from the District Drug Inspector, dated November 16, has uncovered that several medications supplied to these centers do not adhere to the quality standards set forth by the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The implications of these findings have generated widespread public concern and have been escalated to the highest levels of government, including the offices of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, which raises serious questions about the safety and effectiveness of the medications available at these facilities.

This issue was initially brought to light during an investigation in the eastern region of Bihar, where notable discrepancies in drug quality at Jan Aushadhi Kendras were identified. Among the violations reported, multiple medications were found to contravene regulatory guidelines established by the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The inspection report was referred to numerous relevant authorities, including the District Assistant Drug Controller, Civil Surgeon, and the Ministry of Health, along with the Prime Minister and Home Minister's offices. This situation has exacerbated public anxiety, particularly among individuals who depend on these centers for cost-effective healthcare solutions.

Substandard Pharmaceuticals Identified at Jan Aushadhi Kendras

The investigation revealed several concerning incidents involving substandard medications. One critical finding pertained to the Vitamin B-Complex with Vitamin C soft gels (Medicine Code 665). The report indicated that these soft gels contained an insufficient level of Vitamin B-12, which fell below the mandated minimum requirement. Regulatory guidelines stipulate that Vitamin B-12 content should exceed 5 micrograms; however, these capsules barely reached the minimum threshold. Additionally, the Folic Acid content in this formulation was found to be lacking, as the required minimum of 1000 micrograms was not met, thus raising significant doubts regarding the overall efficacy of the product.

Another medication examined was a multi-vitamin and multi-mineral capsule enriched with Ginseng (Medicine Code 580). The inspection reported that this product was neither classified as therapeutic nor prophylactic, thereby violating the regulatory guidelines applicable to such drugs. Concerns were also noted regarding a combination of Carbonyl Iron, Zinc Sulfate, and Folic Acid Capsules (Medicine Code 1223), wherein the Folic Acid content was determined to be below the required 1000 micrograms.

The report also flagged discrepancies in Calcium Carbonate, Vitamin D3, Methylcobalamin, L-Methyl Folate Calcium, and Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate Tablets (Medicine Code 2297), which are typically prescribed for patients with severe deficiencies. These tablets were found to contain ingredients in amounts that exceeded the recommended dosage, yet the packaging failed to mention these elevated levels, violating safety regulations.

Other flagged products included soft gelatin capsules (Medicine Code 2054) containing Cobalamin, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Inositol, Folic Acid, Chromium Picolinate, Selenium, and Benfotiamine, which were found to contain quantities of these ingredients that were below the clinically necessary levels.

Call for Professional Oversight and Immediate Action

In light of these findings, local officials have called for a significant overhaul in the management of Jan Aushadhi Kendras. The investigation has led to a recommendation that the centers should only be operated by licensed pharmacists. The report suggests that these pharmacies must ensure proper oversight due to the complexity of distributing medicines based on composition rather than branded names. Without a pharmacist present to supervise the process, there is a higher likelihood of errors in dispensing and inventory management, which could ultimately compromise public health.

The lack of qualified personnel in many of these centers has raised serious concerns about the overall safety of the Jan Aushadhi program. The report highlights that many of the centers, in violation of regulations, are currently being run without trained pharmacists, which undermines the effectiveness of the initiative.

Public Outrage and Growing Concerns

The revelations have sparked widespread public concern, particularly in regions like Bihar, where many low-income individuals rely on the Jan Aushadhi Kendras for affordable and life-saving medications. Rajendra Kumar, a concerned local resident, expressed his frustration, stating, “The Jan Aushadhi initiative was supposed to provide a lifeline for people who couldn’t afford expensive medicines. But if these medicines aren’t safe, then what was the point of the program in the first place?”

As news of the irregularities spreads, people are demanding urgent action from both state and central governments. Many are calling for a complete overhaul of the monitoring system at these centers, urging for stricter checks and more robust regulatory mechanisms. Public health experts have also joined the chorus of concern, stressing the importance of ensuring the safety and effectiveness of medications dispensed at these centers, which have become a cornerstone of affordable healthcare for millions.

Government's Response and Next Steps

The matter has now reached the highest levels of government. The Health Ministry has assured the public that it is closely monitoring the situation and is taking steps to address the issues raised in the report. Officials from the Ministry have promised that investigations will be conducted across all Jan Aushadhi Kendras, with particular focus on ensuring that medicines meet the prescribed standards of quality.

Additionally, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has indicated that it will review the regulatory framework surrounding the program and ensure that any lapses are swiftly addressed. The government is also considering implementing a more stringent monitoring system to prevent such discrepancies from recurring.

A statement from a senior official at the Ministry of Health read, “We are fully committed to providing safe and affordable medicines through the Jan Aushadhi scheme. The concerns raised in the report are being taken seriously, and necessary steps will be taken to rectify the situation. Our goal is to ensure that such issues are never repeated.

7.1 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Nepal, Tremors Felt in Bihar, Delhi-NCR, and China

January 7, 2025

At approximately 6:35 AM IST on January 7, 2025, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 struck near Lobuche, a town located in the mountainous region of Nepal. The tremors from this earthquake were felt widely across several regions, including Bihar, Delhi-NCR, and parts of China, causing panic among residents. The earthquake’s impact, though strong, did not lead to any significant casualties or major damage, but it has left authorities on high alert as they continue to monitor the situation.

Tremors Felt Across Bihar, Residents Panic

In Bihar, the earthquake's tremors were particularly felt in districts such as Patna, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, and Muzaffarpur. The shaking prompted many people to evacuate their homes in fear of aftershocks or further tremors. Local reports suggest that people in high-rise buildings and homes with older infrastructure were the most affected, with many rushing out of their homes into open spaces for safety.

Eyewitnesses in Patna described feeling the ground shake violently for several seconds, leading to widespread panic. "The tremor felt like a truck hitting our building. We rushed out immediately," said a local resident. Similar accounts were heard across other affected districts, with several people reporting visible cracks in buildings and infrastructure. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries or deaths so far, but the scare was enough to leave residents shaken.

In Sitamarhi, where the epicenter of the quake was reported to be closer, the tremors were felt strongly. The sudden shaking caused many people to flee their homes and offices, and traffic in some areas was disrupted due to the panic. "The entire building was swaying. I thought it was a major disaster," said a Sitamarhi resident. Despite the significant tremors, the district has so far not reported any major damage or casualties.

The earthquake also affected Muzaffarpur, which lies further south. While the tremors were less intense than in Sitamarhi and Patna, many residents reported feeling the shaking. Authorities were quick to issue warnings about potential aftershocks, urging residents to stay away from unstable structures.

Regional Impact: Tremors Felt as Far as Delhi-NCR and China

Beyond Bihar, the earthquake's tremors were felt in neighboring regions. In Delhi-NCR, buildings swayed as the ground shook for a few seconds. Although there was no significant damage reported in the capital, the sudden tremor caused concern among residents, especially in high-rise buildings. People rushed out of their homes and offices, taking to social media to report the quake.

The tremors were also felt in parts of China, particularly in areas near the Nepal border. Chinese authorities have not reported any damage or casualties from the earthquake, but they are closely monitoring the situation in case of aftershocks.

Nepal: The Epicenter and Its Implications

The earthquake's epicenter was located near Lobuche, a town situated in the Himalayan region of Nepal, at a depth of about 10 kilometers below the Earth's surface. Given the region’s seismic activity, the earthquake was a reminder of the vulnerabilities of countries like Nepal, which are located along the tectonic plate boundaries of the Indian and Eurasian plates.

Nepal has experienced frequent seismic activity in the past, with major earthquakes causing widespread damage and loss of life. The most recent major earthquake, which struck in 2015, caused devastation across Nepal and neighboring countries. Fortunately, this earthquake, although strong, did not cause widespread destruction. However, authorities in Nepal are still assessing the impact in the region, especially in remote areas that may have been more severely affected.

Response and Aftershocks

Authorities in Bihar and Nepal have been quick to respond to the situation. The Indian government, along with the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority, is closely monitoring the situation, and emergency response teams are on standby. Several aftershocks have been reported following the initial earthquake, though they have been of lower magnitude.

Emergency response teams in Bihar have been deployed to inspect the damage and ensure that people are safe. The Bihar government has also urged people to remain cautious and avoid traveling on roads that may be unstable due to the tremors.

In Nepal, rescue teams are working to assess any possible damages, particularly in areas that may be difficult to access due to the mountainous terrain. While the earthquake caused some fear and panic, officials have assured the public that there are no immediate signs of a major disaster. Still, authorities are urging residents to be prepared for potential aftershocks.

Conclusion: A Close Call but No Major Casualties

As of now, there have been no confirmed casualties or significant damage in the affected areas, though the fear caused by the tremors is still fresh in the minds of many. Authorities in both India and Nepal are continuing to monitor the situation closely, urging residents to stay alert and follow safety precautions. While the earthquake served as a wake-up call for the region’s preparedness, the quick response from authorities has ensured that any damage has been minimized so far. The next few days will be crucial as the region watches for any further aftershocks.

BPSC Exam Row: Prashant Kishor's Arrest Sparks Outrage in Patna

Patna witnessed high drama on Monday, January 6, 2025, as Jan Suraaj Party leader Prashant Kishor was arrested during an indefinite hunger strike at Gandhi Maidan. Kishor’s protest aimed to highlight alleged irregularities and a paper leak in the 70th Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Combined (Preliminary) Competitive Examination (CCE). His hunger strike, which began on January 2, became a flashpoint in Bihar’s ongoing struggle for transparency in recruitment processes.

The protest escalated when police declared Gandhi Maidan a prohibited zone. Despite repeated warnings to vacate, Kishor and his supporters stood firm. In the ensuing eviction process, tensions flared, and Kishor was reportedly slapped by officers, a claim that has triggered widespread condemnation. His arrest has intensified public outcry over governance lapses and police high-handedness.

Prashant Kishor’s Five Demands for Reform

At the heart of Kishor’s protest were five critical demands aimed at rectifying systemic issues in Bihar’s examination and employment systems:

Comprehensive Investigation and Re-Examination: A high-level probe into the alleged paper leak and irregularities in the 70th BPSC examination, coupled with a demand for the exam’s cancellation and re-conduction to ensure credibility.

Unemployment Allowance: Immediate implementation of an unemployment allowance for youth aged 18 to 35 years, as promised under the “7 Nischay” program introduced in 2015.

White Paper on Irregularities: Publication of a detailed white paper outlining all instances of exam irregularities and paper leaks over the past decade, including actions taken against the culprits.

Accountability for Police Brutality: Strict action against officers involved in the lathi-charge on protesting students on December 29, an incident that left many injured and sparked widespread outrage.

Domicile Policy for Local Jobs: Introduction of a domicile policy to reserve at least two-thirds of government jobs for Bihar’s youth, addressing the pressing issue of unemployment in the state.

Public Anger and Systemic Failures

The alleged paper leak has amplified frustration among Bihar’s job aspirants, who frequently face hurdles in competitive exams due to systemic corruption. Kishor’s protest has struck a chord with the youth, symbolizing their collective demand for a fair and transparent recruitment process.

The December 29 lathi-charge on protesting students added fuel to the fire, highlighting the administration’s failure to address grievances without resorting to violence. With growing unrest, public sentiment is increasingly critical of the government’s handling of the situation.

Political Reactions and Criticism

Kishor’s arrest has drawn sharp criticism from opposition parties. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav accused the government of stifling dissent, stating, “The youth of Bihar deserve justice, not repression. Silencing peaceful protests reflects the government’s failure to engage with genuine concerns.”

Congress leaders also condemned the police’s actions, demanding an independent inquiry into the allegations of misconduct. In contrast, the ruling party defended the eviction, arguing that Kishor’s protest disrupted public order. “Protests must adhere to the law,” a government spokesperson remarked.

A Call for Transparency and Reform

Kishor’s demands have reignited debates about systemic reforms in Bihar’s recruitment policies. While the proposed domicile policy has gained support among locals, critics argue that long-term solutions lie in creating sustainable employment opportunities rather than temporary measures.

The demand for a white paper underscores the urgent need for transparency and accountability in competitive exams. By addressing these issues, the government could rebuild trust and restore confidence in the system.

What’s Next for Bihar?

The Bihar government now faces mounting pressure to address the concerns raised by Kishor and the broader public. Failure to act decisively could lead to further unrest and erode public trust in state institutions.

For Prashant Kishor, his arrest has elevated his role as a vocal advocate for Bihar’s youth. His unwavering stance has inspired many to join the fight for justice and accountability. As the movement gains momentum, it’s clear that the demand for systemic reform is not merely a passing protest but a call for lasting change.

The coming days will test the government’s commitment to addressing these pressing issues. Will they engage constructively, or will they continue to suppress dissent? One thing is certain—the youth of Bihar are determined to be heard, and their fight for a fair and just system is far from over.

Lalu Invites Nitish to Rejoin the Grand Alliance, Bihar CM Clears His Stand

Bihar has once again been disturbed in its political landscape. RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav issued an open invitation to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to come back into the Grand Alliance fold. This New Year statement of Lalu has revived the political Vayus in Bihar. CM Nitish Kumar, however, rejected the proposal outright and made it clear what his priorities were.

Lalu Says: "The Doors Are Always Open"

In his statement, Lalu Prasad Yadav mentioned that the Grand Alliance’s doors are always open for Nitish Kumar. He said,
"Nitish often leaves, but we have forgiven him. He is welcome to return if he wishes."
This statement has sparked new political discussions in Bihar.

Nitish Kumar's Firm Response

Nitish Kumar rejected the proposal offered by Lalu Yadav outright. Responding briefly, he said,

“What are they saying … never mind.”
Even as JDU leader Vijay Chaudhary elaborated on the party's stand and said both the party and CM Nitish Kumar stood with the NDA. He added The stand of our party and the Chief Minister is clear. We are with the NDA and will be (with NDA) as well.

Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary Hits Back

Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary criticized Lalu Yadav’s remarks, labeling them as politically motivated. He said,
“Nitish knows Lalu Yadav inside out. Lalu is speaking out of fear, and such statements are merely an attempt to stay relevant.”

Tejashwi Yadav Takes a Jab

RJD leader and former Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav also commented on the matter. He remarked,
"Lalu Ji’s statement was made to pacify the questions posed to him. If you ask him such things, what else can he say?"
Tejashwi also stated that 2025 would mark the "farewell year" for Nitish Kumar, adding,
“A new government will be formed in Bihar in the coming year.”

Political Implications and Signals

Lalu Yadav, Nitish Kumar ka saath kabhi nahi raha stable relationship But the recent invitation from Lalu and the categorical rejection from Nitish show that a political understanding is not on the cards. Tejashwi Yadav’s remarks indicate that the Grand Alliance

Political Stir in Bihar: Lalu Prasad’s Open Invitation to CM Nitish Kumar

The political atmosphere in Bihar has been buzzing with speculation about the future of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Will he remain with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) or join the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan)? This question has been on the lips of political analysts, party workers, and the general public alike. Recently, an unexpected statement from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav has further fueled the speculation, adding fuel to the ongoing political debate.

Lalu Prasad, in an interaction with journalists, made a significant statement regarding CM Nitish Kumar’s political future. He said, “The doors are open for CM Nitish Kumar. If he wishes to join the Grand Alliance, he is welcome.” This open invitation has sent shockwaves across the political corridors of Bihar and beyond. His statement, which came during a conversation with the media, suggested that there are no obstacles for Nitish Kumar if he chooses to align with the Grand Alliance and work together for the welfare of the state.

The comment by Lalu Prasad has particularly piqued the interest of political observers and members of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The NDA, which currently shares power with Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) party, is now feeling the heat, given that Lalu's remarks have clearly indicated an offer to Nitish Kumar, should he choose to switch sides.

This all unfolded during a celebration marking the birthday of RJD leader and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi. The event, held on January 1st, saw the presence of Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. During the event, reporters raised questions about Nitish Kumar’s political allegiance. In response, Lalu Prasad made it clear that both the public and the Chief Minister would always find the doors of the Grand Alliance open. His statement seemed to suggest that there was still room for Nitish Kumar to join the Mahagathbandhan if he decided to do so.

This remark by Lalu Prasad is significant because it comes after his son, Tejashwi Yadav, made an entirely different statement just a few days earlier. Tejashwi, who is the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and a key member of the RJD, had mentioned that CM Nitish Kumar seemed “tired” of his current political journey. He also pointed out that for now, the doors of the Grand Alliance were closed for Nitish Kumar. However, he added that any decision regarding Nitish Kumar’s future would be made by the party’s top leadership, and whatever decision was made would be binding for all party members.

Tejashwi’s statement had caused quite a stir, as it seemed to indicate a firm stance regarding Nitish Kumar’s political future within the Grand Alliance. But now, with Lalu Prasad’s latest remarks, the situation appears to have taken a dramatic turn. While Tejashwi’s statement suggested a potential political distancing from Nitish Kumar, Lalu Prasad’s invitation seems to offer a fresh opportunity for cooperation.

So, what does this all mean for the future of Bihar’s politics? The contrasting statements from Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav indicate the complex and dynamic nature of political relationships within the state. On the one hand, there seems to be a strong desire from the RJD leadership, particularly Lalu Prasad, to keep the door open for Nitish Kumar’s return to the Grand Alliance. On the other hand, Tejashwi Yadav’s remarks suggest that there is some internal conflict or caution within the RJD regarding Nitish Kumar’s position.

The political drama surrounding Nitish Kumar is far from over. Will he stay in the NDA, or will he take Lalu Prasad’s offer seriously and return to the Grand Alliance? The coming days will be crucial in determining the future course of action, not just for Nitish Kumar, but also for the Grand Alliance and the NDA in Bihar.

In conclusion, Lalu Prasad’s open invitation to CM Nitish Kumar has added a new twist to the ongoing political developments in Bihar. While Nitish Kumar has not yet responded to this invitation, it has undoubtedly reignited the debate about his future political alliance. As Bihar gears up for the next chapter in its political saga, all eyes will be on Nitish Kumar’s next move, as it could reshape the political landscape of the state.

High Drama in Patna: FIR Filed Against Prashant Kishor Amid Student Protests

Patna became the epicenter of unrest on Sunday as students protesting the alleged paper leak in the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam clashed with the police. The demonstration spiraled into chaos, leading to an FIR against Prashant Kishor, leaders of the Jan Suraaj Party, several coaching institute owners, and over 700 unnamed protestors.

The protestors, primarily aspirants of the 70th Combined Competitive Examination, have accused the state of negligence and demanded an immediate re-test. Their grievances stem from allegations that the leaked exam paper undermined the integrity of the recruitment process.

    The Protest and Police Crackdown

The unrest began at Patna’s historic Gandhi Maidan, where students gathered to voice their demands. Their march toward JP Golambar, en route to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s residence, saw tension build rapidly. The demonstration turned confrontational when protestors broke barricades and reportedly damaged police loudspeakers.

The police accused the Jan Suraaj Party of orchestrating an unauthorized march that disrupted public order. In response, authorities used batons and water cannons to disperse the crowd, leaving the area in disarray.

“Repeated appeals to follow the law went unheard. The protestors defied guidelines, resulting in a public order crisis,” said a senior police officer involved in the operation.

    Prashant Kishor’s Involvement

Prashant Kishor, known for his transition from election strategist to political leader, played a visible role in the protest. He marched alongside the students, voicing his support for their demands. Kishor assured that a delegation would meet the Chief Secretary to discuss their concerns. However, the students rejected this proposal, insisting on a direct meeting with the Chief Minister.

Kishor’s earlier plan to hold a “Chhatra Sansad” (Students’ Parliament) at Gandhi Maidan on Gandhi Jayanti had also faced administrative hurdles, with authorities denying permission for the event.

    Political Undercurrents

This episode highlights the growing political ambitions of the Jan Suraaj Party, which has recently positioned itself as a significant contender in Bihar’s upcoming assembly elections. The party’s active involvement in student issues has sparked debates about its strategy to gain traction among the youth.

Kishor’s support for the students aligns with his broader narrative of addressing grassroots concerns, potentially setting the stage for a politically charged campaign.

    What’s Next?

The demand for accountability in the BPSC examination process has gained momentum, with students calling for systemic reforms to ensure fairness and transparency. The BPSC aspirants, determined to seek justice, continue to highlight what they view as administrative failures.

For the Jan Suraaj Party, this protest could serve as a defining moment, emphasizing its commitment to the state’s youth and their aspirations. As Bihar heads toward its assembly elections, such flashpoints are likely to shape the political discourse, making the fight for justice a pivotal issue.

Students Protest Outside BPSC Office: Police Lathi Charge Sparks Outrage

Patna, Bihar – A massive protest by students outside the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) office on December 25, 2024, turned violent when the police resorted to a lathi charge. The protest was organized to highlight alleged irregularities and inefficiencies in the BPSC examination process. Several students were injured in the incident, leading to widespread outrage among the youth and political parties.

    The Protest and Its Causes

The protest began with hundreds of students gathering outside the BPSC office in Patna. The students demanded transparency in the examination process, timely announcement of results, and changes to the examination pattern. They alleged that frequent delays and procedural flaws were creating immense stress and uncertainty among aspirants.

Carrying placards and chanting slogans, the students aimed to draw attention to their grievances, but the situation escalated when a section of protesters attempted to block roads and approach the BPSC office.

Police Action: Lathi Charge on Students

To control the growing crowd, the police intervened. As the situation became more chaotic, the authorities used a lathi charge to disperse the students. Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic as students ran to escape the police action.

Many students were injured in the lathi charge, with several requiring medical attention. Videos and images of the incident quickly spread on social media, drawing criticism of the police's heavy-handed approach.

    Student Reaction and Demands

The police action only fueled the anger of the students, who accused the administration of suppressing their voices instead of addressing their concerns. They demanded the following:

    1. A formal apology for the lathi charge.
    2. Immediate reforms in the BPSC examination process.
    3. A high-level inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the examinations.

Student leaders also vowed to continue their protests across Bihar until their demands are met.

    Government's Response

The Bihar government defended the police's actions, citing the need to maintain law and order. At the same time, officials from the BPSC assured that they were open to discussions with student representatives to address their grievances.

However, the assurances did little to pacify the students, who criticized the government for failing to acknowledge their struggles.

    Political and Public Outcry

The incident has sparked a political storm, with opposition parties condemning the lathi charge and expressing solidarity with the protesting students. Leaders from various parties demanded accountability from the state government and immediate action to resolve the students' concerns.

Social activists and intellectuals also weighed in, calling the police action excessive and highlighting the need for systemic reforms in the state's education system.

    The Road Ahead

With tensions running high, student unions have announced plans for statewide protests in the coming days. Security around the BPSC office has been tightened to prevent further unrest.

This incident has brought to the forefront the urgent need for reform in Bihar's examination and recruitment processes. As students continue their fight for justice, the state government faces mounting pressure to address the issues and restore trust in the system.

  • Nitish Kumar’s Health: Bihar CM Cancels All Events After Sudden Illness
    My India Times   2024-12-21  171

Nitish Kumar’s Health: Bihar CM Cancels All Events After Sudden Illness

In a shocking development, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has canceled all of his scheduled public appearances after being struck by a sudden illness. This news was confirmed by his office earlier today, citing health concerns that required immediate medical attention. His unexpected health setback has raised concerns among political circles and his widespread support base across the state.

Kumar, 73, who has served as the Chief Minister of Bihar for over 15 years, is a key figure in the political landscape of the state. He is known for his steadfast leadership and ability to steer the state through complex challenges. His political journey, spanning over decades, has been marked by his commitment to Bihar’s development and his advocacy for social justice. This sudden health issue has raised questions about his ability to continue at the helm of the state government, though many expect his close allies to manage affairs in his absence.

Though specific details of his illness have not been disclosed, sources suggest that the Chief Minister was experiencing symptoms severe enough to require rest and medical attention. Due to his sudden health issues, he had to cancel several major events and meetings that were scheduled for today, including consultations with government officials, party leaders, and media engagements. This abrupt disruption has left his supporters and the public concerned, given his central role in the state’s governance.

Political leaders from across the spectrum have swiftly expressed their support and well-wishes for Kumar’s speedy recovery. Tejashwi Yadav, Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, took to social media to convey his prayers for the Chief Minister’s health, calling on all Bihar residents to send their positive thoughts. Several other prominent leaders, including those from opposition parties, have also extended their good wishes, reinforcing the widespread respect and admiration Kumar enjoys in the political sphere.

Despite his temporary absence, political analysts believe that the functioning of the state government will not be significantly disrupted. Bihar’s administration has a strong team of senior officials and party members, who are well-equipped to manage ongoing projects and affairs. However, the Chief Minister’s absence during this critical phase could have some impact on key decisions, especially as Bihar navigates ongoing developmental challenges and prepares for upcoming elections.

The timing of this health issue is particularly sensitive, as Bihar faces numerous pressing issues, including education, healthcare, infrastructure development, and socio-economic reforms. Kumar’s leadership has been vital in advancing several initiatives aimed at improving the living standards of the people in Bihar. From his landmark policies on social welfare to initiatives aimed at improving law and order, his leadership has been seen as a beacon of progress for the state.

The political stability of Bihar also hinges on the Chief Minister’s leadership during the upcoming election season, which has prompted concerns about the state’s future direction. Nevertheless, Nitish Kumar's political party, the Janata Dal (United), has a loyal and experienced cadre, which will likely take the reins temporarily until his recovery.

At this point, there is no official timeline for his return to active duties, though his office has assured the public that they will be kept updated on his condition. While the cancellation of his events has led to some disruption, many believe that the state government’s machinery will continue to function smoothly with minimal impact on day-to-day governance.

Bihar’s people, who have long placed their trust in Nitish Kumar’s leadership, are hopeful that this health scare will be brief and that he will soon recover. His legacy of tireless work for Bihar’s betterment, his focus on education, healthcare, and social justice, and his strong commitment to the state’s development make his recovery all the more significant for the people of Bihar.

As we await further updates, it is a reminder to prioritize health above all else. Nitish Kumar’s health should be his foremost concern at this time, and the state’s residents join in wishing him a full and speedy recovery.

The committee’s focus on community welfare has quickly made it a respected initiative in the area, inspiring other nearby villages to consider similar support systems.

  • Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party Faces Backlash
    My India Times    2024-11-07  75

Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party Faces Backlash

The Jan Suraaj Party (JSP), founded by political strategist Prashant Kishor, is facing growing criticism ahead of the November 13 Bihar Assembly bypolls. The party's decision to field three candidates with pending criminal cases has raised eyebrows, especially as it contradicts Kishor's previous commitment to promote candidates with a “clean image”.

Three JSP Candidates with Criminal Records

The three controversial candidates, contesting for the Tarari, Ramgarh, and Belaganj Assembly seats, all have ongoing criminal cases. This comes after the bypolls were necessitated following the election of their respective MLAs to the Lok Sabha in the recent elections. Critics have questioned the party's integrity and commitment to reforming Bihar politics, as these candidates' backgrounds contrast with Kishor’s promises during his campaign for a cleaner, more transparent political system.

Mohammad Amjad: Criminal Cases and Controversial Past

One of the most notable candidates from the JSP, Mohammad Amjad (55), running for the Belaganj Assembly seat, has five pending FIRs against him. These charges, spanning from 1995 to 2022, include serious allegations such as attempt to murder, breach of public peace, and criminal intimidation. Despite this, Amjad remains a prominent figure in the area. His education level is listed as Class 10, and he has a history of contesting elections unsuccessfully, including losing the 2010 election in Belaganj by a narrow margin of 4,500 votes.

Interestingly, Amjad was not the initially announced candidate for Belaganj. Mohammad Khilafat Hussain, an academic, was originally chosen by the JSP, but after pressure from his supporters, Amjad replaced Hussain as the candidate. This sudden change has further fueled the controversy surrounding his candidacy and raised questions about the party's internal decision-making process.

Criticism of Prashant Kishor's Promise of a 'Clean Image'

Prashant Kishor, who has long criticized the political establishment for its corruption and criminal elements, promised a “clean image” for candidates fielded by the Jan Suraaj Party. However, the recent revelations about these candidates with criminal backgrounds have undermined that promise. Political observers are questioning whether Kishor's principles have been compromised as his party approaches the crucial bypolls.

The situation has sparked a political debate in Bihar, with critics arguing that this move not only undermines Kishor’s credibility but also reflects poorly on his vision for political reform in the state. His party’s lack of transparency in selecting candidates is becoming a major point of contention.

Bypolls in Bihar: A Crucial Test for JSP's Credibility

The November 13 bypolls are seen as a significant test for the JSP, especially after it was formed to bring a fresh political approach to Bihar. With candidates like Amjad facing serious allegations, the party’s image and integrity are being put under the microscope.

The Bigger Picture: Political Reforms or Political Expediency?

As the bypolls approach, the focus will be on whether Prashant Kishor’s party can live up to its promises or whether it will follow the same path as traditional political parties. While Kishor has advocated for clean politics, his party’s current stance raises serious questions about whether the JSP is ready to lead the charge for political reform in Bihar or if it is willing to bend its own rules for political expediency.

    Key Takeaways:

    • Three of the JSP’s four bypoll candidates have pending criminal cases.
    • Mohammad Amjad, candidate for Belaganj, faces five serious criminal charges, including attempt to murder.
    • Critics question Prashant Kishor’s commitment to clean politics after the party's controversial candidate selections.
    • The November 13 Bihar bypolls will be a major test for the Jan Suraaj Party's credibility.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Bihar bypolls and Prashant Kishor’s political journey.

In a shocking incident, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ajit Singh reportedly died by suicide at the traffic operations office barracks in Patna, Bihar, on Sunday morning. The 50-year-old officer, a resident of Ara, was found with a gunshot wound to the head, allegedly from his own service pistol. The tragic event occurred between 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM at the Gandhi Maidan police station area.

Patna Police Begin Investigation: Family Informed

Upon discovering the body, Patna Central SP Sweety Sehrawat and a forensic team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) were immediately dispatched to the scene. Authorities recovered Ajit Singh’s service pistol and spent bullet casing at the location. The officer’s family was informed and arrived shortly thereafter. His body has been sent for post-mortem, and authorities are investigating the cause and circumstances surrounding his death.

Police Probe: Suicide Suspected but Investigation Ongoing

The initial investigation suggests that Singh’s death was a suicide, but authorities are keeping all avenues open. Family members and colleagues are being questioned to understand if there were any personal or professional issues that may have contributed to this tragedy. Police assured that they will continue to probe any possible reasons, including emotional distress or work-related pressures.

Mental Health Awareness for Police: A Growing Concern

Ajit Singh’s death has reignited concerns over the mental health of police officers. High-stress environments, long working hours, and exposure to traumatic situations are common challenges for law enforcement personnel. Mental health experts are calling for better psychological support and well-being initiatives within the police force to prevent such tragedies.

Updates on Investigation and Community Support

The post-mortem report will provide further clarity, while the police continue their investigation. Ajit Singh’s colleagues have expressed deep sorrow over the loss, remembering him as a dedicated officer. The tragic incident highlights the need for stronger mental health programs for officers in high-pressure roles.

Bihar: EC Announces Bypoll for Tirhut Graduate Con

Patna, Bihar – In a major political development, the Election Commission (EC) of India has officially announced a bypoll for the Tirhut Graduate constituency in the Bihar Legislative Council. The seat fell vacant following the election of senior JD(U) leader Devesh Chandra Thakur to the Lok Sabha, representing the Sitamarhi constituency. This announcement is set to trigger fresh political dynamics in the state, especially as parties begin to gear up for the December 5 poll.

A New Political Chapter for Tirhut Graduate Constituency

The Tirhut Graduate constituency has a storied history of political significance, having been represented by prominent leaders, including Thakur, who held the seat for several terms before his recent Lok Sabha victory. Thakur's departure from the legislative council after decades of service marks a pivotal moment in Bihar's political landscape, creating an opportunity for new leadership in the region.

The bypoll is scheduled for December 5, 2024, with the counting of votes set to take place on December 9, 2024. The last date for withdrawal of nominations has been set for November 28, 2024. This timing places the election squarely in the midst of winter, with political campaigning expected to intensify in the coming weeks.

JD(U)’s Strategy: Young Leadership at the Forefront?

Sources within the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) have revealed that the party has considered fielding Abhishek Jha, a young and dynamic leader known for his sharp rhetoric and his role as an influential spokesperson for the party. Jha, who has gained considerable attention for his articulate defense of JD(U) policies and his combative style of communication, is seen as a potential candidate to continue the legacy left by Devesh Chandra Thakur.

While JD(U) officials are yet to make a formal announcement, there is growing speculation that Jha’s candidacy would mark a strategic move to energize the party's base, especially among the youth in the region. The Tirhut Graduate constituency has traditionally been a JD(U)-dominated seat, and the party is keen on retaining control to maintain its stronghold in the state legislature.

Opposition’s Preparations: The BJP Looks for a Strong Contender

As the ruling JD(U) gears up for the bypoll, opposition parties, including the BJP, are expected to make a significant push for the seat. Political analysts suggest that the BJP will field a candidate who can challenge JD(U)’s dominance in the region. The BJP’s local leadership is said to be mulling over potential contenders who could appeal to both educated voters and those disillusioned with the current political leadership.

BJP leaders have hinted at fielding a candidate with a strong local presence and a proven track record of public service. The focus will be on tangible issues such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and job creation—issues that directly affect the lives of the educated electorate in the constituency.

The campaigning will likely witness a clash of ideologies, with JD(U) emphasizing its focus on social welfare, empowerment, and education reforms, while the BJP may center its campaign on issues such as national security, governance, and economic reforms.

  • Bihar Govt's Landmark Sports Recruitment Initiativ
    My India Times    2024-11-07  102

Bihar Govt's Landmark Sports Recruitment Initiativ

In a bold move to foster the growth of sports and create new employment opportunities for the youth, the Bihar government, under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has launched the 'Direct Recruitment Rules of Bihar Outstanding Sportspersons 2023'. This transformative initiative is part of the state's ongoing effort to inspire young athletes and boost sports culture through direct employment opportunities for medal-winning sportspersons.

The ‘Medal Lao, Naukri Pao’ Scheme: An Introduction

This ambitious program, dubbed the ‘Medal Lao, Naukri Pao’ initiative, is a testament to Bihar’s commitment to uplifting its sports ecosystem. Under this scheme, athletes who win national or international medals are given direct access to government jobs in various sectors, without the need for lengthy examinations or interviews. In an unprecedented step, the government has provided significant job placements to 71 accomplished sportspersons in the year 2023-24 alone.

A New Horizon for Athletes: Top Positions and Promotions

The scheme offers job opportunities in prestigious roles, with athletes being appointed to positions like Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), depending on their performance in sports. This novel approach not only rewards excellence in sports but also gives athletes the chance to serve the community in administrative and law enforcement capacities.

The Bihar government has made an impressive commitment to include athletes in high-profile positions, encouraging a blend of academic achievements and sports excellence. The state is committed to fostering leadership skills among its athletes, encouraging them to grow beyond the field.

Key Highlights of the Initiative: Success Stories from 2023

The 2023 round of appointments under the 'Direct Recruitment Rules' was a landmark achievement for the state. Among the 71 appointed sportspersons:

    • Two individuals were appointed as officials, with positions such as Child Development Project Officer and Block Panchayati Raj Officer.
    • Sixty-nine sportspersons were given jobs in law enforcement and administration, including Police Sub-Inspectors, Superintendents, and positions in the Social Welfare Department, such as Data Entry Operators and Clerks.

This system has so far benefited more than 342 sportspersons, all of whom are now working across various government departments, contributing to the state's development in diverse ways.

Revitalizing Sports Infrastructure Across the State

To complement this initiative, Bihar is heavily investing in sports infrastructure. The state is determined to ensure that young talent has access to world-class facilities at every level. As part of the state's vision, around 250 block-level stadiums have been completed, providing a platform for athletes to train and compete in their own neighborhoods. These stadiums are designed not just for the elite athletes but for the youth across all districts, making sports accessible to all.

Additionally, athletes from Bihar are being sent across the country and abroad for better training, ensuring they are equipped to compete at the highest levels. This focus on development and access is expected to produce a new generation of world-class athletes who will bring glory to the state and country.

The Legacy of Nitish Kumar: A Champion of Sports and Employment

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s long-standing commitment to sports and athlete welfare is a cornerstone of Bihar's development. This latest initiative builds on the foundations laid in 2010 when Kumar first announced that sportspersons who win medals in competitions will be provided with government jobs. Since then, the state has been on a steady trajectory, delivering on this promise year after year.

In 2010, 33 players received jobs, a figure that grew exponentially in the following years. In 2011, the number rose to 125, followed by 82 in 2015, and 31 in 2020. In total, 271 players have received government jobs as a result of this forward-thinking program.

Moreover, Kumar’s support for sports extends beyond state borders. During his tenure as the Minister of Railways in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, Kumar was instrumental in arranging jobs for athletes in the Indian Railways. His leadership led to the recruitment of hundreds of sportsmen from across the country, creating a legacy of support for the sporting community that continues today.

A Model for the Nation: Bihar's Approach to Sports Employment

Bihar’s initiative has garnered attention across the country as a model for other states to replicate. By offering direct employment to medalists, the state not only ensures that sportspersons are rewarded for their hard work but also helps integrate them into the fabric of governance, security, and social welfare.

This scheme is particularly significant in a state like Bihar, where youth unemployment and lack of job opportunities have often been challenges. By combining sports success with career stability, the state is paving the way for a future where sports and education go hand-in-hand.

A Call to Action for Young Athletes

The Bihar government’s message is clear: those who excel in sports will be recognized, rewarded, and given the tools to succeed beyond their athletic careers. The 'Medal Lao, Naukri Pao' scheme is a life-changing opportunity for the youth of Bihar, and it sends a strong signal about the state’s dedication to sports development.

With Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s continued leadership, Bihar is poised to become a powerhouse for sports talent and employment, fostering not only champions on the field but also leaders and changemakers in the administrative and law enforcement sectors.
