Passengers travelling on Indian Railways without a valid ticket will now have to pay a significantly higher penalty as the national transporter has doubled the minimum fine for ticketless travel. As part of the modifications made under the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026, the revised penalty went into effect on June 20, 2026, raising the minimum fine from ₹250 to ₹500.
