The Karnataka government has announced a budget allocation of Rs 57 crore for the reconstruction of the Bengaluru Bio-Innovation Centre (BBC), which suffered extensive damage in a massive fire on January 21, 2024. In the Karnataka Budget 2025-26, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who also holds the finance portfolio, announced that Rs 57 crore would be allocated for the centre’s reconstruction. Out of this, Rs 20 crore has been earmarked for the financial year 2025-26, ensuring that immediate steps are taken to restore the facility.

To encourage more startups and large biotech firms to invest in Karnataka, the government has introduced several financial incentives under the new biotech policy:

Investment Subsidy: Up to Rs 10 crore for biotech manufacturing units.

R&D Support: 50% reimbursement (up to Rs 10 lakh) for purchasing advanced research equipment.

Lease Rental Assistance: Reimbursement of up to Rs 5 lakh for startups.

Employment Incentives: Rs 50,000 per fresher employed in the biotech sector.

Internship Stipend Support: Rs 5,000 per intern to encourage industry exposure.
