The victim, Hasmat Bano, is now hospitalized with 30% burn injuries and is receiving care at a government hospital. Her children and nephew also suffered minor acid burns due to the attack.

According to Hasmat’s statement, her father-in-law, Ramzan Khan, frequently instigated conflicts within the household. The tension culminated on October 8, when Ramzan allegedly entered Hasmat’s home while her husband and brother-in-law were away. At that time, only Hasmat, her children, her sister, and her nephew were present. Ramzan is accused of barging in unprovoked and pouring acid on her. Hasmat’s complaint highlights that her children and nephew, who were nearby, sustained minor injuries from the acid.

A Family in Crisis, Community in Outrage

The community has reacted with shock and anger, especially given the severity of the assault and its impact on innocent children. Neighbors and local leaders have condemned the attack, expressing concern about the escalating cases of domestic violence in the region. “This is horrifying. Acid attacks are among the most brutal forms of violence, and to target someone within the family is unimaginable,” remarked a local women’s rights advocate.

Women’s advocacy groups are urging the government to prioritize safety for women facing domestic abuse and to increase legal repercussions for acid attacks, especially those committed by family members.
